Exam dates for the telc C1 exam





What do I need to be able to do for the telc C1 exam?

On the basis of the telc C1 examination, you demonstrate your general knowledge of German at a highly advanced level.  

This examination is therefore suitable for you if you have 

  • already successfully completed a C1 German course
  • the relevant German language skills at C1 level, but have acquired them by other means.  

At C1 level, you can understand long and demanding texts without any problems. You are also able to grasp implicit meaning and read "between the lines". You can express yourself fluently both orally and in writing, rarely having to search for words. This also means that you can communicate in a target-oriented manner and in a manner appropriate to the situation, both at work and in private. You also have no difficulty explaining complex issues.  You are familiar with German idioms and have a high degree of grammatical accuracy in all conversations.

 

How is the telc C1 exam structured? 

The telc C1 examination consists of two parts: 

  • the written exam (3 hours 40 minutes)
  • the oral exam (16 or 24 minutes)

The oral exam will either take place on the day of the written exam or will be scheduled for another date.  

Of course, we will send you all the important information about the date and procedure of your telc examination in advance by e-mail. This way, you will know the exact schedule in advance and can start your exam day well prepared. 

Structure of the written exam

The written part of your C1 telc exam will take 3 hours and 40 minutes. It is made up of the following sections: 

  • Reading comprehension: 90 minutes
  • Listening comprehension: 40 minutes
  • Written expression: 70 minutes

After the reading comprehension tasks, you will have a 20-minute break.

 

Structure of the oral exam

Before the oral part of your telc examination, you will have 20 minutes of preparation time. 

The oral examination itself lasts 16 or 24 minutes. The duration depends on the number of candidates. You will take your oral exam with one other candidate as a dialog or with two other candidates as a group discussion.

How doI pass the telc C1 exam? 

In order to pass the exam, you must achieve at least 60% of the maximum score of your telc exam in both the written and oral sections. 

With a maximum total score of 214 points, this means you must achieve at least 99 points in the written exam and 29 points in the oral exam. This corresponds to a minimum score of 128 points in total. 

 


Your exam score will be graded according to this scale: 

  • Very Good: 214-193 points
  • Good: 192.5-172 points
  • Satisfactory: 171.5-151 points
  • Sufficient: 150.5-128 points
  • Failed: 127.5-0 points

 

How much does it cost to take the telc C1 exam?

The examination fee is € 225.00. 

 


Can I retake the exam? 

Yes, you may retake the telc C1 exam as often as you wish. 

You only failed the written or the oral part? In this case you do not have to repeat the entire exam, but only the part you failed. 

 


When will I receive my telc certificate?

We know that you are eagerly awaiting your exam result and your telc certificate after all the work has been done! 

However, we do not evaluate your exam ourselves in Leipzig, but send your documents to the telc head office in Bad Homburg.  

The evaluation there usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. 

We will let you know immediately as soon as we have received your examination papers back. From this point on, you can pick up your telc certificate at our office in Leipzig. 

Please do not forget your valid photo ID when you come to pick it up.

 

Can you also send me my telc certificate? 

Yes, if you are not in Leipzig or are unable to pick up your certificate in person, we will be happy to send it to you by mail. 

Important: In order to be able to send your certificate by mail, we need a power of attorney from you. 

The same applies if you do not pick up your certificate in person, but instruct someone else to do so. In both cases it is not sufficient to inform us by phone or e-mail. 

We will only charge you the postage costs for sending your certificate.
